■日産アートアワード2020・ヨコハマトリエンナーレ2020 連携パネルディスカッション「ニューノーマルにおけるキュレーター、アーティストの新たな視点」

日本で最大級の国際芸術祭として2000年にスタートし今年で７回目を迎える横浜トリエンナーレと、日本の優れた現代アーティストを国際シーンに後押しすることを目的に創設され、今回で４回目を迎える日産アートアワード、どちらも日本で最も歴史ある港町の横浜から始まりました。
それぞれ国際性を軸とした国際展／アワードですが、気候変動やパンデミックなど地球規模の混乱や社会的課題が一気に表出し、強烈なニューノーマルへの転換が求められる中、それぞれ何を目指すことができるのでしょうか。時代の潮流にいち早く反応することで「炭鉱のカナリア」とも形容される現代アーティストの各展における作品を参照しながら、国際的な文化シーンでの経験豊富なパネリストたちの視点を探ります。

｢Perspectives from Curators and Artists on the New Normal」

Marking its seventh edition this year, the Yokohama Triennale was launched in 2000 as Japan’s largest international art festival. The Nissan Art Award was established with the goal of furthering the international careers of superb Japanese contemporary artists, and is taking place for the fourth time this year. Both are based in the city of Yokohama, Japan’s oldest port.
With their respective international focuses, what can such exhibitions and art awards aspire to do today, when social challenges and disorder on a global scale in the form of climate change and a worldwide pandemic have suddenly come to the fore, and we must now shift our lives to a drastically different “new normal”? Drawing on various examples of works at exhibitions by contemporary artists, whose protean approaches and practices can respond quickly to the times and provide early indicators like the canary in the coal mine, this discussion explores wide-ranging perspectives from a panel of speakers with rich experience in cultural scenes internationally.
